The war deprives many children in Ukraine of the chance of a carefree childhood. In an underground children’s centre in Saltivka, one of the most damaged districts of Kharkiv, we support a safe space for playing, learning and being together.
Everyday school life is no longer the same for many children. Ongoing attacks are forcing schools to hold lessons online – especially for younger children, this means no learning together, no friendships, no carefree break time. Many children have never even seen the inside of a classroom.
We create a safe place where children can play, learn and socialise undisturbed – a bit of normality in the midst of war.
In the Saltivka district, we run an underground children’s centre that offers exactly this kind of space. Here, children can meet their peers, develop social skills, and temporarily forget the reality of war.
