Rehabilitation Centre SUNRISE

The SUNRISE Centre will become a rehabilitation centre for particularly affected groups, including people with disabilities, veterans, journalists, and human rights defenders. Our goal is to create a protected space for recovery and trauma recovery.

Initial Situation

Initial Situation

Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022, numerous civilian facilities have been destroyed across the country. The psychological burden on the population is enormous, especially for civil society actors. In many regions, there is a lack of suitable rehabilitation centres. The SUNRISE project aims to address this need by providing a safe place for recovery and resilience-building.

Our Goal

Our Goal

The project takes a holistic approach, combining material recovery with psychosocial support and developing civil society structures. The centre will be a protected space for rehabilitation, stress management and mental health recovery while also strengthening social cohesion in the region.

The former hotel and recreation complex was severely damaged in 2022 but is ideally suited for use as a rehabilitation centre. Reconstruction work has been ongoing since 2023 with the support of international partners. The centre will accommodate up to 50 people and run programmes for psychosocial rehabilitation, trauma recovery and building resilience in civil society.
